We've recently been working with The Idea Bureau on a web design project, the challenge was to redesign an 'About Us' page. It was crucial to focus on this page, as the stats were telling them that most people where accessing the site through this page rather than the home page. This happens a lot, as when someone searches for you on Google, it's not always your home page that comes up. The page had be more engaging, with less paragraphs for people to read through and more powerful graphics. It was worth spending the extra time on this page, as the results spoke for themselves when compared to the original design.

Here are 5 tips to make your about us page much more engaging, and a place where people will want to spend time, learn about your business and hopefully click through to other areas on your site:

1) Less is more

OK, we know designers are famous for saying this. But, it's true. Don't clog the page up with endless text, keep it simple and to the point.

2) Two colours

It's amazing how powerful you can make the design by only using two colours. A light and a dark colour set can work well to gain maximum contrast.

3) Icons

Instead of using text, why not use an awesome icon set instead? The user will know instantly what you are talking about, and it's also a good way to push your brand style. Keeping relevant information 'visual' will make it much more interesting.

4) Click through

Make sure to talk about who you are, what you do and how to get in touch. You don't need to go into too much detail, as you can create links/buttons to relevant areas of your site where you talk about these topics in more detail. If someone wants to know more, they will click.

5) Look after your copy

Even though you don't want to include masses of text, you still need to look after it. Make sure your content is written well, proof read and SEO friendly. This means including key words that are relevant to your business, in order to appear in search results.
